Lil Wayne Says 'Tha Carter V' Is Coming Soon (Again)

In addition to shouting out Roc Nation, Lil Wayne's recent tour stop featured him teasing a release of 'Tha Carter V.'

On August 14, 2014, Lil Wayne took to ESPN’s SportsCenterto unveil the artwork for his upcoming album, Tha Carter V. Over two-and-half years have passed since then with fans witnessing promises of new material, free projects to hold them over, and a protracted legal battle between Wayne and Cash Money Records before the proposed album was scheduled to hit retail shelves. During a recent stop on the Kloser 2 U Tour in Dallas, TX at the South Side Ballroom, Wayne may have reignited hopes of his delayed album finally seeing the light of day.

“Thank you, C5 coming soon,” Wayne told the assembled crowd. “Fuck Cash Money. It’s the Roc.”

Aside from adding another chapter to the ongoing back and forth between himself and Cash Money CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams, what can be taken away from hinting at a release of an album that was promised back in 2014? Last year, former pharmaceutical entrepreneur Martin Shkreli claimed to have two discs worth of material from Tha Carter V. And while there have also been multiple tracklists and matching rumors about featured artists on Lil Wayne’s rumored swan song, both Wayne and Mannie Fresh confirmed they worked on tracks together.

Birdman stated Tha Carter V would “definitely come out” this year during an appearance on Travis Scott and Chase B's Beats 1 show .wav radio. All of these events have taken place after the album's proposed release date was changed from May 5, 2014 to October 28, 2014 and again to November 9, 2014. At least the latest announcement didn't come with a firm calendar date.

Given all the multiple rumors and fan theories about the proper release of the album, it may be best for Lil Wayne fans to wait until Wayne’s longtime manager Cortez Bryant confirms any C5 news.
