Watch Chance the Rapper Perform Kanye West's "Waves" During First Be Encouraged Tour Stop

Chance the Rapper performs "Waves" and touches on other 'The Life of Pablo' tracks at the opening night of his Be Encouraged tour in San Diego.

Chance the Rapper's Be Encouraged Tour with King Louie and DJ Oreo launched in San Diego on Monday night. For the inaugural show at the Valley View Casino Center, Chance treated fans to a performance of his version of Kanye West's The Life of Pablo cut "Waves."

In addition to the original "Waves," Chance also touched on Pablo tracks "Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1" and "Ultralight Beam."

In his Complex cover story interview in March, Chance—who's credited as a writer on "Father" and other Pablo tracks—confirmed he was not the brains behind the oft-quoted "bleached asshole" lyric. "'Ye is a comedian in a lot of ways," Chance told Complex. "He writes stuff that is painfully funny and painfully true. And that's why you respect comedy and that's why you respect his work. His best lines are lines that are just funny, whether it's, like, a word being mispronounced, or a weird take on something that a lot of people wouldn't necessarily say out loud—not making light of [it], but in a clever way exposing something that's socially wrong, you know?"

Chance's Be Encouraged Tour continues in Oakland on Wednesday, then makes its way across North America before hitting London and closing in Phoenix in October. Check the full list of dates below:

Chance also took time during his San Diego stop to take a jab at several major record labels. He did this in front of a giant screen that depicted disparaging spins on the names of some major players' logos (for example, according to Rap-Up, Sony was swapped to "Phony," Def Jam was "Don't Join," and Aftermath was "Can't do the Math.") while performing "No Problem." Other shots included switching Warner to "Weiner," Motown to "No Crown," Universal to "Undiverse," Epic to "Edick," and Virgin to "Villain."

After showing each of these logos, the giant screen then depicted the trio of Grammys Chance took home at this year's show:

We'll see if this theme continues throughout the tour.
