The combination of soul music and hip-hop is generally associated with the U.S., and has been for years. At 1.45, it's most definitely lean—we'd happily listen to another six or seven minutes of Life's smooth yet nimble bars and the soulful, jazz-inflected production—but you have to admire the creative restraint.
