Hailing from the German city of Mainz, Butch has led the way among DJs of the region for the last decade, owing to a clever grasp of storytelling through sound and fusing his style between areas of house, techno, and other experimentally related outposts. Equally adept at holding down the main room or keeping the energy rolling at the after-party, a varied palette has seen Butch last the test of time. He once shared, "People who come to the show get in the ship, and I take them on a trip. To get into the spaceship, they leave their physical body at the door. You must switch off the real world and switch off the mind. I will do the rest." For the uninitiated, and for those in need of further proof, Butch takes to Room 1 at London's Printworks this Saturday (April 1), and, to get you hyped, he's dropped off this exclusive mix.

Tell us a bit about your selections in this mix.
This mix will transform you. It's a portion of a 9-hour mix I made for my Down The Rabbit Hole residency at Watergate in Berlin. It subtly gets you into the groove and, before you know, it transports you down the rabbit hole further and further until you're happily trapped and never want to leave again.

What was the one track you absolutely had to include?
The tune that really captures the atmosphere of DTRH the best for me is "Thai Cubensis" by Butch & Hohberg. I love this Butch guy. He's really amazing [laughs].

Any tracks that narrowly missed the cut?
Many, man, many. Some of them need to really be played for the first time in the rabbit hole itself, where I'll play them at the right time. The first time is always the most important.

What's the first single or album you ever bought?
That would be Kraftwerk's The Mix. I liked the cover, gave it a quick listen and loved the content of the record even more than the cover. So I took it home with me.

What's the last physical record you bought?
That must have been Shadowdrum's "ISHARA", on Mountain People. Great record.

What do you want to see happen musically over the next 12 months?
I'd love for people to develop their own musical taste more deeply and not run after artificially created trends. And I'd like me and Rick Rubin to produce a Grammy-winning tune featuring Paul McCartney, Dr. Dre and whoever is the biggest star in China. Rick, Paul, Dre, and Chinese superstar... I'm waiting for your call!

What trend or scene absolutely needs to die right now?
This shitty trance shit, which is being sold as super-cool Emo Techno on 122 BPM. Apart from that, the trend of hating on other scenes and trends totally needs to die. Fuck motherfuckers calling other people motherfuckers. I'm Butchy! I've come to give you good times.
