Katy Perry has introduced us to Oblivia in her new video for “Chained to the Rhythm.”

What’s Oblivia, you ask? It’s an elaborate amusement park with rides that represent a deeper meaning of your life goals. Perry’s songs always have a few underlining messages, and we follow her through the park as she examines what really motivates us in life: dreams of owning a house one day, love, a nuclear family, and more.

Perry realizes in the video that life is filled with unexpected turns, no matter how straight and narrow your path can be. During a 3D movie screening that highlights Skip Marley’s guest feature, she comes to the conclusion that you can break the rules. One of the song’s metaphors is watching dozens of people participate in running on a wheel. But when its Perry's turn, she stops, as if to say that not everyone needs to be chained down to what's expected. It's interesting stuff.

At the 59th Grammy Awards, Perry performed “Chained to the Rhythm” live for the first time. It’s her first single since 2013’s Prism, which had big singles such as “Roar” and “Dark Horse” featuring Juicy J.
