DJ Slim K is back with more heat.
For this holiday season, the Chopstars crew member put his signature “chopped not slopped” spin on one of the biggest albums of 2016: Frank Ocean’s Blonde. The project, titled Purpl(e) Blonde, is right in line with Slim K’s previous reworks, as it presents a much slower and chilled-out sound than the original. We know, Blonde is already a pretty mellow album, but this version is truly hypnotic.
"It wasn't much about the actual project of Blonde, but more about Frank's voice when slowed down that makes the people enjoy his music chopped up,” Slim K explained to Pigeons & Planes. “I personally wanted to chop the album to give the fans what they've been requesting during the holiday season!"
This isn’t the first time Slim K has reimagined Frank’s material. In 2012, the Houston producer gave Frank’s debut album, Channel Orange, the “chopped not slopped” treatment. He has since reworked other career-defining albums, such as Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book, Young Thug’sJeffery, J. Cole’s Forest Hills Drive, and Travis Scott’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.
