Shining Path are a new electronic band from the UK, helmed by Tom Kerridge, aka the long-time producer and label owner of RAMP. With over 10 years' worth of experience in the industry, it was only a few months ago that Tom decided to group together some of his musician friends to form the band; prior to that, he felt uninspired. "A few years ago," he says, "I began to realise that all the demos I was being sent were monotonous and samey. There was less and less music I wanted to release. Throwbacks became the norm, and no new ground was being sought out, and so we just stopped putting music out." Today, Kerridge and his band find themselves in a new space, and they're about to give the electronic world a vibrant shock of greatness with their forthcoming Full Gloom EP.
One of the set's highlights, "16 Bits", features the attention-gripping rhymes of grime spitter Trim over smashing pans and shootings synths; it's the less-is-more approach that makes this such a win. "I had the opportunity to get in the studio with Trim," says Tom, "and I obviously jumped at the chance. He came up to our studio in Suffolk and picked the beat—it was actually one of the first things I ever made. I had forgotten about it, but Trim picked it out after I played him a load of stuff."
