In a week that brought sadness, disappointment, and fear to a lot of Americans, John Legend has delivered another message of hope.

On Friday, the activist/singer released the official music video for “Love Me Now,” the first single from his upcoming studio album Darkness and Light. The song debuted in early October and was called the perfect follow-up to Legend’s 2013 hit “All of Me,” as it delivered a poignant message on unconditional love. And it’s no surprise the track’s visuals are just as moving.

The music video was directed by Nabil Elderkin, who’s worked with the likes of Kanye West and Frank Ocean. He was able to underscore a message of love and resilience by capturing various couples in well-known (and politically charged) locations around the world. We see them at North Dakota's Standing Rock Reservation, the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, the Domiz Refugee Camp in Northern Iraq, and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.

“From one of the longest standing refugee camps in northern Iraq just 45 miles outside of Mosul, to Standing Rock Reservation, where they are fighting against the Dakota Access Pipeline that threatens their sacred lands and all of our water, it is a glimpse into these couples' lives and the lives of those in their communities,” Nabil said a press release.

As the country struggles with the 2016 presidential results, it seemed like this optimistic video couldn’t have come at a better time; however, Legend insists the timing was coincidental.

“These are the election results and all of us will have to learn to deal with it. I will not give up though. I will continue to be aware and vigilant. I will continue to speak out for justice,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “We didn't think about the election when we planned the release date for this song and video. But in this time of conflict and uncertainty, it's clear that we all need more love.”

You can watch the “Love Me Now” video above. Darkness and Light is set to drop Dec. 2.
