Grime star Skepta took home the prestigious Mercury Music Prize last week, seeing off competition from pre-award favourite David Bowie, as well as Laura Mvula, Kano, Jamie Woon, and more. As expected, 'The Mercury Effect'—the routine sales surge that each winner inevitably receives—has now kicked in for Skepta, and, per midweek sales data, Konnichiwa has now jumped from 53 to 13 over the last seven days, with 3,296 sales bringing its total to just over 85k, reports Music Week.

With last year's winner Benjamin Clementine experiencing a 500% increase of plays on streaming platforms, for his LP At Least For Now, the same can also be expected of Konnichiwa down the line. Complex UK spoke with Dominic Wallace, music editor of Deezer UK & Ireland, on the significance of the Boy Better Know MC's triumph: "Skepta's win won't thrust grime into the mainstream—it will give its artists more of a voice, which, for grime, is far more valuable."

It all seems to be a case of new week, new wins for Skepta. Just yesterday, it was revealed that he's been nominated for three awards at this year's MOBO Awards, one of which is for Best Album.
