IOKOI

What is "hypercyberrealism"? Well, according to rising experimental producer IOKOI, it's "the territories where physical and virtual spaces interweave." In real terms, that gives us her new album, Liquefy (out Sept. 23 via OUS), an ambitious collection of tracks that's as challenging as it is pleasing. IOKOI, as tracks like "Body/Head" and "Absolitude" (as well as the hyperreal visual aesthetics aided by photographer Matthieu Missiaen exemplify), is a fully-formed artist in every sense, combining the sonic with the visual for a complete package. Contrasting against the uncannily smooth imagery, IOKOI's music is often abrasive, confrontational even in its harsh tones, but there are soothing moments strewn throughout, most notably in the sultry vocals and warm low-end of "Absolitude" or the shimmering electronics and robotic soul of "Lost".

In short, Liquefy (which you can stream in full below) is a densely-packed album exploring themes of identity, consciousness and reality—heavy stuff that can't be fully digested on the first listen.
