The Mayor Of London, Sadiq Khan, has urged Fabric and the Metropolitan Police to cooperate towards a solution that will safeguard the club's future and clubbers' health and safety. His statement arrived after several DJs tweeted Khan to point out the integral role Fabric has in the city's club culture, and it's one of the few major London nightclubs still remaining in a climate of mass-club closure in the capital. The club was recently forced into an "indefinite closure" after two drug-related deaths at the Farringdon spot.

A number of Fabric favourites, such as Butterz' Elijah, Chase & Status and Daniel Avery, all took to Twitter to ask for Khan's call-to-action. But it was Artwork's message that garnered a response from Khan. Their conversation is below:

Dearest @SadiqKhan I voted for you for your views on London club life. Now please do something about @fabriclondon

Lots of love

I'm urging #Fabric, the Met & Islington to find an approach that protects clubbers' safety & the future of the club. https://t.co/g9X5bZm02e

Artwork was right to point out Khan's manifesto promises to protect London's club culture, along with pubs and venues, which have been embroiled in controversy and closure recently for a variety of reasons. Regardless, it looks to be a positive sign for nightlife and club culture in London, with the Mayor Of London in open dialogue with DJs and willing to respond to issues that he promised he would safeguard to the people that are still pushing the culture.

Talking to Dazed earlier this year, Khan said: "We can save London's iconic club scene, which draws thousands of visitors to the capital, generates jobs and helps ensure our city remains prosperous, vibrant and dynamic."

Well, the proof will be in the pudding.

UPDATED AUG. 28: Fabric have posted this statement on their website about the club's future. And if you haven't already, sign Jacob Husley's #savefabric petition at change.org/savefabric.

UPDATED AUG. 30: Sadiq Khan has responded to the petition, stating: "I am committed to using the influence of my office to overcome the numerous challenges facing the night time economy."

"Clubbing needs to be safe. There have been two tragic deaths at Fabric over recent months and there are clearly issues that need addressing," Khan wrote. "Fabric, the Metropolitan Police and Islington will of course have to take real action to protect the safety of everyone who enjoys a night out at the club."

However, Khan also stressed that the issue was not one that could made solely by the mayor himself or by City Hall: "I am committed to using the influence of my office to overcome the numerous challenges facing the night time economy... However, it is important to note that City Hall does not have the power to intervene in licensing cases like the current situation with Fabric."

"My team have spoken to all involved in the current situation and I am urging them to find a common sense solution that ensures the club remains open while protecting the safety of those who want to enjoy London’s clubbing scene," he wrote. "I welcome your call for us all to work together – City Hall, London's music venues, local authorities, the police and others."
