Mary J. Blige has filed for divorce from her husband, Kendu Isaacs, after 12 years of marriage. The pair had a special relationship with Isaacs being Blige's husband, but also working for the star as her manager.

According to TMZ, the singer filed her documents in court on Tuesday, citing "irreconcilable differences," but listing the date of separation as "to be determined." She requested that Isaacs not receive spousal support.

The couple got married back in 2003 with Blige admitting that he came into her life at a time when she hated men. "He was the first person to ever challenge what I did: 'Why are you drinking? Why do you hate yourself? You don't need to be around people who tear you down. You're beautiful, Mary.' He was the first man to ever tell me that," she revealed in a 2007 interview with Parade.

However, the marriage didn't come without its difficulties because of their unusual combination that tied their personal lives with their work. Blige praised Isaacs for always having her back, but admitted in Stella Magazine that the downside to their relationship was that "it's on all the time...When you don’t feel like answering to your manager, he’s still your husband. If one of you doesn’t want to talk about something right now, you have to respect that. And you have to respect each other’s space."

Musically, Blige has been in the studio concentrating on her follow up to 2014's London Sessions, collaborating with the likes of Hit-Boy, Jazmine Sullivan, and Kanye West. As a masterful purveyor of emotion, we can only imagine that she will channel whatever she is going through to create some powerful new music.
