The Game premiered his new three-part documentary series Streets of Compton recently on A&E, and now he's released a soundtrack to accompany it. The 11-track project is meant to be a sonic tour of his hometown, featuring songs like "Support Compton," "For the Homies," and "Death Row Chain." The Game also recruits a number of artists from the city to lend their voices, including Problem, Boogie, Micah, Payso, and J3. It features the previously released singles "Roped Off" and "Gang Signs."
Although Streets of Compton is a soundtrack, it features The Game as the lead artist on all 11 tracks. As such, it serves as the Compton rapper's third project in less than a year, following The Documentary 2 and The Documentary 2.5. It is the companion to his miniseries, which features interviews with famous Compton residents, including Kendrick Lamar, N.W.A., MC Eiht, and Richard Williams, the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. It attempts to understand the city's history of drug and gang violence as a way to explain its important musical and cultural output.
The Game was recently forced to shoot down rumors of a potential G-Unit reunion, after his artist Pharaoh Jackson posted an Instagram hinting at the possibility. "Yeah, I don't know where that came from, man, but I can't see that happening no time in the near future," he told HipHopDX on the set of his "Roped Off" video.
