A contestant from Mexico's version of the popular television singing competition The Voice was reportedly shot and killed in Chicago on Saturday Night. The Associated Pressreports Alejandro "Jano" Fuentes was ambushed while celebrating his 45th birthday with a group of friends outside of his Tras Bambalinas School in the city's southwest side in Brighton Park. The unknown assailant reportedly pointed a gun at him and ordered him to get out of his car. Once he was out of the vehicle, the armed individual fired three shots, which the Associated Press reports were fatal.

At this time, the Chicago Police Department does not have any suspects in custody. According to WGN television, "Police were investigating whether the shooting was an attempted carjacking or a robbery." This murder is especially galling coming just a week after the inexplicable death of The Voice singer Christina Grimmie in Orlando, Florida. Grimmie was signing autographs for fans after a concert when she was reportedly shot by obsessed stalker named Kevin Loibl.

Fuentes first appeared on La Voz in Mexico in 2011 during the show's first season. Since then, he relocated to the U.S. where he opened up a studio to teach young, aspiring students how to sing, dance, act, and even model. "He was a very talented guy — one of a kind," Miguel Sanchez who was tutored by Fuentes, told the Chicago Tribune. "That's why it's terrible for us, because he didn't have any enemies, he didn't have a problem with nobody. He was a gentleman."
