Fresh off the back of his debut EP JARA, Dutch-based producer and singer Juan Calderon has just shared this gloomy set of visuals for the EP's lead track "Empire". Telling the story of a young couple trying to score, the Rapresent-shot video is soaked in darkness that only makes it more chilling when things take a sudden and dramatic turn for the tragic. Like all acts of violence, the point of it all—if there was one—is unclear and lost in the chaos. The EP takes its inspiration, and its name, from '70s Chilean folk singer Victor Jara, which can be heard most potently in the breathy, delicate vocals and gentle guitar playing. It's unerringly melancholic but utterly engrossing, not least because of a marriage between affecting songwriting and subtle-yet-rich visuals.
