Dublin's Detboi earned his reputation for making percussive bangers some time ago. Having previously produced and mixed sounds ranging from bassline to UK funky and bashment, Detboi seems to have really found his stride with dark, snarling drum & bass with a heavy emphasis on atmosphere. We got a taste of it when he remixed Special Request's "Damage" late last year, but now we're getting a proper listen to with his new EP. We couldn't be happier to see him sign to legendary D&B label Metalheadz, and happier still to see him collaborate with label boss Goldie for "Joyride", the opening track of his new EP of the same name. It's eerie, disorienting and, despite the menacing combination of distant melodies and echoing soundbites, the big noisy breaks and overwhelming low-end come together for a brutal D&B heater.
