West London wordsmith Jelani Blackman has just released Jelanji, his new concept mixtape. Undertaken with a band of producers, taking on jungle records and giving them the Houston-style chopped-n-screwed treatment, the outcome is a bed of atmospheric sounds underneath Blackman's harsh and gravelly tones. With the slowed-down jungle patterns still maintaining their intensity, added instrumentation brings them from one rhythmic realm and crosses them over into another. The bulk of production is handled by Jung Munk and Blackman himself, rounded out with input from Quality Time labelmate Count Counsellor and Yami. Stream the 7-track set exclusively below.
