Erykah Badu and Robert Glasper Honor Miles Davis in New "Maiysha (So Long)" Video

Erykah Badu and Robert Glasper celebrate Miles Davis' legacy with their new video for "Maiysha (So Long)."

Erykah Badu and Robert Glasper share the video accompaniment to their rework of Miles Davis' "Maiysha." Written and self-directed by Badu, the visual opens up on her delivering a monologue and describing herself as "a neurotic, beatnik chanteuse" with Glasper playing the role of her lover and the band's keyboard player. The whole thing takes its inspiration from the variety shows of the '50s and '60s and plays out with its own comical take on the variety show genre.

The song is taken from Glasper's Miles Davis tribute album, Everything's Beautiful, which commemorates the legend on his 90th birthday and features reworked clips of Davis' studio recordings. The lyrics for "Maiysha (So Long)" were also written by Badu, who has been extremely busy this past year. After five years of silence, Badu dropped her mixtape, But You Caint Use My Phone, last fall and will also appear this summer in the Nas-produced skateboard drama, The Land, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival this year.

Recently, Badu wowed with her remix of PARTYNEXTDOOR's "Come and See Me," which proved she's clearly still on her game. She has been sharing new music consistently over the last few months including a remix of Wintertime's "Thru It All" and her interpretation of Kanye West's "Real Friends," which she renamed "Trill Friends."

Anything Badu gets her hands on is typically ear-grabbing and visually enthralling and her self-directed video for "Maiysha (So Long)" is no exception. Watch the captivating eight-minute video above. Everything’s Beautiful, which also features Laura Mvula and Stevie Wonder, is out now on iTunes.
