The name Roska is synonymous with underground house music. Rising up in 2007 during the bass-heavy stage of funky house, the producer's harder take on the genre quickly garnered interest and cemented his name as one of the sound's leading forces. As you know, funky fell asleep in 2010—there were talks of a revival in 2014 but that never came to be. But it's a new day, and Roska's leading the church with a brand new EP in Askin 4 It and a roster full of funky-indebted beatsmiths on his Kicks & Snares label. "The idea behind 'Toll Booth' came about two years ago," Roska says of the EP's lead track—and it sounds as fresh as ever. Melodic strings and a sawtooth bassline are met by the beatboxing skills of Killa Kela who, in 2008, he met at a gig up in Glasgow. "I grabbed the old UK funky samples I used from 2007 to 2012 and everything just gelled together."
