Coachella has announced that festival goers will receive unprecedented access to this year’s event with a new virtual reality app that will take attendees behind the scenes. All ticket holders will get a cardboard virtual reality viewer as part of their Coachella package. There is a corresponding mobile app, available for iOS, Android, and Samsung Gear VR, that offers several virtual reality experiences including virtual tours of the 2016 festival site, artist interviews, and performances by 2016 Coachella artists Matt and Kim, Gallant, and others to be announced. The features will be available before, during, and after the two-weekend festival in April.
The festival has long been open to implementing advanced technology to create a special experience. Most famously, Coachella "brought out" music icon 2Pac as a hologram during Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's set in 2012. Festival attendees can look out for their viewer to arrive in the coming weeks with the festival set to kick off in just over a month in the desert of Indio, Calif.
