Johnny Depp has long touted his rock and roll bonafides. From his decades-long friendship with The Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, to his latest project as a member of Alice Cooper's cover band The Hollywood Vampires, Depp has long had the rock in his heart which is why it was a little surprising to learn that he's a major Run the Jewels stan.
In a new Pre-Grammys interview with Chideo, Depp got downright effusive about his admiration of the group. "There are two guys, a guy named Killer Mike, and a guy named El-P and they've done two records. They're called Run the Jewels, and the beauty of what they do is...it's brilliant." Depp added, "The lyrics, they have a way of touching kids and making people think....they're both fun...I get it."
Of course it's not really all the surprising that Depp, as a rock fan, would love RTJ. The duo has cultivated a wide fan rockist base that includes the likes of Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Jack White, Cedric Bixlar-Zavala from the Mars Volta, and of course, Zack de la Rocha from Rage Against the Machine. Regardless, El-P seemed pretty stunned by the news:
holy shit either im on mushrooms (still) or johnny depp just gave huge love to RTJ https://t.co/3kPisTECdI
