Turk, a former member of the New Orleans hip-hop group the Hot Boys, has launched a GoFundMe page to help pay off his considerable $5 Million debt following his release from incarceration in 2012. According to a statement that he posted on Instagram, "Today I come to you for help because I am in a 5 million dollar debt and it's getting hard trying to pay it off on top of everything else." He added, "There is no secret stash. This isn't a conspiracy theory. This is what happens when a man faces his actions, does his time and returns home to live free. The debt to society has been paid. The restitution has been paid. Now you want to go for broke and take from a man what he doesn't have."
Turk was originally sent to jail in 2004 on Federal charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a fugitive from justice in possession of a firearm, and an unlawful user addicted to a controlled substance in possession of a firearm stemming from a shooting incident that took place in Memphis, Tennessee. He later offered an Alford plea on charges of second-degree attempted murder stemming from the same altercation and was given 14-years in jail. Turk was eventually released from prison in 2012.
Last year, he sued his former label Cash Money Records to the tune of $1.3 million for unpaid royalties and actually won his case when Cash Money refused to respond. However, the label refused to pay up until the two parties reached an out-of-court settlement and Turk withdrew his judgment.
