R&B, and music in general, is in pretty rude health right now. The boundaries between genres are fast-becoming meaningless and that leaves us open to music that doesn't concern itself with categories or subscribing to arbitrary rules. Australian duo Audego, for example—inspired by everyone from Public Enemy to Dolly Parton—they produce music that you couldn't really assign a genre to. On their latest single, "Side Effects", the twosome blend velvety R&B-tinged vocals and sci-fi electronics with all the power and inventiveness of Public Enemy—and the video underlines that with hyper-futuristic visuals and abstract images of contorting soundwaves. If a music scene without genres gives rise to this kind of music, then it surely can't be a bad thing.
