Shooting into our consciousness earlier this year with her Miss Havisham EP, Ray BLK presented feminist tropes of empowerment and independence, within well-constructed melodies and experimental production. Keen to prove there's more where that came from, today, Ray drops the Aston Rudi-produced "50/50". Bouncy melodies, wailing guitars and rhythmic breakdowns, there's something reminiscent of early TLC here, with Ray BLK's brand of R&B complete with a distinctly confident hip-hop edge. Recently announcing on Twitter that she had resigned from her grad job, it seems the London lady has put all her eggs into this particular basket. But with the promise of more well-rounded records like this on the way (and a video sometime next week), it's hard to imagine she'll ever regret that decision.
