King Louie Talks About Chicago Gun Violence on CNN Less Than a Week After Being Shot

"The devil is working overtime in Chicago."

King Louie appeared on Don Lemon's CNN show tonight to discuss Chicago's ongoing gun violence problem, despite being shot in the head just last Wednesday. In the short but wide-ranging interview, Louie spoke on his efforts to curb violence, and the controversy surrounding Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. "The devil is working overtime in Chicago," he said when Lemon asked him about the city's problems. He had some negative things to say about his city's police force, which he compared to its gangs, saying they were "just as crooked as the people they lock up."

Near the end of the segment, he got into the term "Chiraq," the popular nickname for Chicago which Louie is credited with making popular. He discussed its origin in his music, and touched on Spike Lee, whose Chiraq movie hasn't been well-received by Chicago rappers like Louie and Chance the Rapper. Chance called Lee out on Twitter earlier this month, while Louie went so far as to release a song titled "Fuck Spike Lee." It's clear that the tragedy and controversy surrounding the troubled Illinois city is bound to continue. Regardless, it's amazing to see King Louie doing well.
