Few artists have as strong a work ethic as Curren$y. Before regular content distribution became the mainstream model, Curren$y was putting out mixtape after mixtape. His reputation for consistency only grows stronger with the recent release of his latest album, Canal Street Confidential. Before he almost died on our Hot Ones set, he sat down to discuss his latest work, elaborating on the significance of New Orleans's infamous Canal Street and delving into why he selected artists like Ty Dolla $ign, August Alsina, and Future to contribute to the album.

Speaking of Future, Curren$y's rise was similar in the sense that he too went on a relentless run, winning over more and more fans with each release. When asked about quality versus quantity, he said, "The only reason that I was dropping so much stuff was because I was receiving feedback that it was quality." He explained that release style is how he discovered Max B, whom he collaborated with years back.

Spitta is all about staying true to his brand, and it's worked out in his favor. Still, it's been a long road for the New Orleans rapper. In the interview, he spoke about how his independent stance helped his business when it came down to sitting at the table with labels. This mindset has led to plans to create a label with his homie Wiz Khalifa that caters to artists who are cut from that same cloth.

And of course we discussed weed, including the future of marijuana legalization and the time N.O.R.E. hooked him up with trash bags of product.

Twist one up, check out the full interview above, and be sure to listen to Canal Street Confidential.
