Just days after 50 Cent called AT&T racist amidst negotiations that could result in customers losing access to his Starz drama Power, Diddy took to Instagram to celebrate a new venture with the very same company. Over the weekend 50 posted up a series of Instagram comments blasting the company as talks between Starz and AT&T stalled, jeopardizing the fate of Power on the cable carrier in the process.
“Man Im sorry I have to say this, but AT&T is racist they have had issues in the past and here we go again,” 50 Cent wrote in the first of several posts about the negotiations shared over the weekend. “500,000 homes will not be able to view the next episode of POWER," he added, speaking of the crime drama he executive produces for Starz. 50 also wrote, "Change your cable package from AT&T to anything else. It's 2015 and these people are still racist. They are dropping all channels that are considered urban friendly. This sh!t is sad."
The thing is, now we know that the company is actually adding a whole channel "considered urban friendly" given Diddy's news earlier today that his own cable network REVOLT will now be distributed by AT&T's U-verse. "REVOLT TV just signed a landmark, historic deal with AT&T U-verse" Diddy said in a video posted to Instagram today. "We're proud to be a part of the AT&T U-verse family. AT&T thank you."
The company also responded directly to 50 Cent's claims via a statement over the weekend. “Starz and their paid talent can spin up whatever they like, but the bottom line is we’re NOT going to negotiate a deal that is bad for customers," a rep said, according to Deadline. "In these negotiations, our customers are all that matter to us.”
AT&T U-verse customers will begin seeing REVOLT as part of their package on Monday (July 27).
