Courtney Love Issues Cease & Desist Orders Over New Kurt Cobain Documentary

Courtney Love issues cease and desist orders to movie theaters planning to show new Kurt Cobain documentary.

Just a couple months after the release of Montage Of Heck, the Brett Morgen documentary about the life and career of Kurt Cobain, another movie specifically about the death of the Nirvana front man is being held up by Cobain's wife Courtney Love

Love, who, along with Cobain's family, gave the greenlight to Montage Of Heck, has issued a cease and desist order to theaters showcasing the new movie, Soaked In Bleach. “The Film falsely presents a widely and repeatedly debunked conspiracy theory that accuses Ms. Cobain of orchestrating the death of her husband Kurt Cobain,” the order reads, according to Deadline. “A false accusation of criminal behavior is defamatory … which entitles Ms. Cobain to both actual and presumed damages.” Despite the order, which was sent to movie theaters around the country, the film continued to show in some theaters.

Soaked In Bleach features dramatic reenactments built on a series of interviews with Love herself conducted by a private investigator she hired to track down Cobain following his departure from a substance abuse treatment in 1994.

Producers for the film responded to Love's orders, telling Deadline, "Courtney Love and her lawyers clearly don't like that the film presents a compelling case for re-opening the investigation into Kurt's death. They should respect the First Amendment and let people decide for themselves."
