Remy Banks is going to have a big year. After years of solid output as a member of Queens-based collective World's Fair, he'll be releasing his second solo project, higher. later this spring—a project he describes as “the rebirth. This is like the reset button…. My first project was on a smaller scale, rather. It was just me developing my skill.” That skill has landed the young MC a spot on tour with Earl Sweatshirt and Vince Staples; a lineup that makes perfect sense, given Remy’s steely flow.

Despite rolling out on tour with two of Los Angeles’ staple artists, Remy’s flow is unapologetically New York. “Being from Queens you grow up being an individual. You see so much and you’re exposed to so much [that] you can just take from everything.” We recently linked up with Remy at a Greenpoint studio to talk everything from growing up in Queens to the rebirth of the New New York movement.
