Thanks to Internet memes like Throwback Thursday, getting caught up in a bout of nostalgia, particularly when it pertains to music, is far from out of the ordinary.

Following this trend, Courvoisier has put together a list of the top hip-hop hits by decade to fuel that hunger for music's past. In the 1970s, the Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five ruled the day, with hits like "Rapper's Delight" and "Superappin'," respectively.

The '80s brought us Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew's “La Di Da Di” and "Rebel Without a Pause" by Public Enemy. In the '90s, rap proliferated along the West Coast and the world got its introduction to hits by the greats, from Snoop to Wu-Tang and Biggie.

Today, tracks by Future, Kanye, Drake, and Nicki are—obviously—topping the charts, but it's nice to see the through-line from rap's roots to the present.
