Wilco Cancels Indiana Show to Protest New "Religious Freedom" Law

"The 'Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act' feels like thinly disguised legal discrimination to us."

While many of the giants of the music industry got together today to make their pockets fatter with Tidal, Wilco became the industry's most ardent opponent of Indiana's controversial Religious Freedom Act by canceling its May 7 show in Indianapolis. Last week Governor Mike Spence signed the bill into law that allows business to refuse service to individuals based on religious grounds. Proponents of the law (reasonable human beings) criticize it as a target against the LGBTQ community.

"The 'Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act' feels like thinly disguised legal discrimination to us," Wilco said in a statement on Facebook. "Hope to get back to the Hoosier State someday soon, when this odious measure is repealed. "

Hopefully more artists will follow the band's lead.
