The highly respected home to indie documentaries, Renowned Films, has just sold a minority stake in the business to Channel 4. The investment comes as part of the Channel 4's £20m Growth Fund. Known for their factual TV productions, the company's back catalogue includes Winner's Circle and F2 Kicks Off, their highest-rating production so far. The company was co-founded by Max Welch, Tim Withers and Duane Jones, the latter having played an instrumental role in the birth and progression of BBC Radio 1Xtra as well as working at MTV and 5Live on digital and broadcasting platforms.

David Abraham, Chief Executive at Channel 4, said: "Renowned Films are an exciting addition to our expanding Growth Fund investment portfolio. Duane, Max and Tim are a passionate and ambitious team with an appetite to create compelling formats across both new and traditional media platforms to inspire young audiences globally. We’re looking forward to working with this talented young indie to help push them to the next level."

Renowned's Duane Jones added: "Renowned Films is thrilled to start a new chapter in our development, bolstered by the support of Channel 4. As a company built by young creatives from the ground up, we share Channel 4's commitment to innovation and experimentation. The Growth Fund investment allows us to continue our mission to engage and entertain today's youth audience with the forward-thinking content they deserve."

Renowned Films are currently in development with new series for BBC Three, ITV, MTV, 4Music and US networks including Fubo TV.
