New York City rap group Ratking brings back a grimy aesthetic that hip-hop hasn't seen in a minute. In their new video for "Cocoa 88," a song off their debut album So It Goes, they link up with DJ Dog Dick and create the perfect visuals to complement their in-your-face sound.
The video starts off with an FBI warning: "Ratking and DJ Dog Dick accept no responsibility for 'Cocoa 88.'" The group mobs around New York City in the winter, but not on some "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" shit. Their New York isn't Central Park, it's rooftops filled with graffiti, they're drinking Private Stock in the snow. DJ Dog Dick isn't on the original "Cocoa 88," but he adds some scatterbrained, out of pocket bars that pair up well with Ratking's unorthodox beats. If you're in New York City on Saturday night you can see Ratking for free at Trans Peco, too.
