This summer has been a busy one for Lenovo and Microsoft. In August, the duo decided to team up with the one and only Timbaland to create a contest aimed at empowering independent music artists, as well as their fans. The competition—fittingly titled Team Up With Timbaland—has since attracted 5,000 entrants, comprised of singers, songwriters, and other artists to compete. Each contestant has submitted a new original track for consideration, which fans have then been able to vote on, as well as share their selections with their friends. Even some very interested celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott, and Lil Kim have weighed in on the contest, giving shout-outs to their personal favorites along the way.
Now, Timbaland and a team of judges are in the process of reviewing the submissions to select their top five favorites to compete as finalists, using criteria based on creativity, originality and recording appeal. Those final five will be announced in mid-October, and each one will be given a two-week surprise musical challenge to determine the sole ultimate winner, who will be chosen by Timbaland alone. That winning artist will receive the ultimate prize: A trip to Miami to spend a day in the recording studio with Timbaland himself. Yup.
