If there was any doubt that grime can be progressive, "Mindmaze" crushes it.

Grime surrealist, E.M.M.A, has always been bold in her approach to music, never afraid to bring together seemingly opposing musical forces; just take a look at her Boiler Room set where she drops a Beach Boys number. While that may seem like a bold move (and it is), it's nothing compared to her latest offering, "Mindmaze". First heard on Mumdance's recent Rinse FM show, the track loosely operates around a grime framework whilst dropping typical machismo in favour of something else altogether. A jaunty sample from educational CD-ROM Encarta '96 comes to the fore, creating a bizarre combination that calls to mind Greensleeves meets East End grime and funky. If there was any doubt that grime can be progressive, "Mindmaze" crushes it.
