Diamond Life, the debut album of English soul-R&B group Sade, was originally released in the UK in 1984—one year before its stateside debut. The seminal effort turned 30 last month on July 16. Heralded as a classic, the full-length went quadruple platinum both here in the U.S. and across the pond off the strength of its single, "Smooth Operator."

In celebration of the momentous anniversary, Sade's band members—guitarist Stuart Matthewman, keyboard player Andrew Hale, and bassist Paul Denman—delve into the making of their classic project. Watch the video above, which also features some vintage footage of Sade talking about the album.
