It seems that Mariah Carey's relationship with collaborator and manager Jermaine Dupri has come to an end. Dupri confirmed the split to Billboard in a statement:
“I put my all into every project. But when I’m not allowed to do what I do, then I know it’s time for me to move on. Mariah and I enjoy working together and will continue to make great music together in the future.”
The loss of control that Dupri alludes to is possibly due to the fact that Carey has been close to former Def Jam president Kevin Liles, who runs his own management company. Billboard reports that the two haven't officially signed together, but Liles has been helping her launch a beverage that she is branding.
Dupri has been behind some of Mariah Carey's biggest hits including "We Belong Together," and served as the executive producer of her recent Me. I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse album. Sales for that album have been far below expectations and it has already dropped out of the Top 200 after only being out for a few weeks.
