Premiere: Stream Muhsinah's "M" EP

Every track on this record is produced, written and sung by Muhsinah herself.

Virginia native Muhsinah is finally ready to release her long-awaited EP, M. We've got the four-track project streaming exclusively on the eve of its official release and three years after the singer's last solo effort, Gone. Her melodies are eccentric in both tone and delivery. Recorded in complete solitude, M finds Muhsinah filling the blanks spawned by her long absence, and the free release is a personal and cathartic one.

The Grammy-nominated artist, however, still has a lot left to say. “I have a theory that all artists need time off to live so that they have something to write about. We all need that time in order to grow, in order to fail, in order to completely make asses of ourselves,” Muhsinah said in an email. "M is Muhsinah. It stands for my many moods—it’s a sonic mood ring really. But most of all it’s me.”

Muhsinah has previously collaborated with Common on "Changes" off Universal Mind Control in 2008 and The Foreign Exchange's "Daykeeper" that same year. She often works as her own muse, producing many of the instrumentals she sings over—every track on this record is produced, written and sung by Muhsinah herself. Stream above, and cop the project tomorrow on Muhsinah's website.
