March 25, 1997
The Notorious B.I.G. posthumously released his album Life After Death on March 25, 1997, 16 days after he was killed in a drive-by shooting. The album features a slew of notable guest artists, including Jay-Z, Lil' Kim, Ma$e, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, The LOX, and Diddy. The album would go on to become one of the best selling rap albums ever, it was certified diamond with over 10 million in sales. Life After Death was also nominated for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Solo Performance, and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 1998 Grammy's, though it didn't win any of the awards.
