February 19, 1991
Before Wu-Tang was even a clan, GZA released his first solo album Words from the Genius under Cold Chillin’ Records on February 19, 1991. The album's significant for being the only album any Wu-Tang member dropped before the group formed in 1992. The album was unfortunately a flop—GZA was freed from Cold Chillin' after the release. It was all for the best, of course.
