How do your favorite rappers write their rhymes? To find out, Complex TV has started a new series, The Process. Hosted by Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg and shot at New York City's legendary Chung King Studios, The Process features intimate conversations with established legends as well as exciting up-and-comers about how they put their rhymes together and the magic that happens when the pen hits the pad. New episodes of The Process premiere every Friday on Complex TV.

In this episode of The Process with Peter Rosenberg, Future shares his path into rap. A cousin of Rico Wade, who is one-third of notable production group Organized Noize, Future says he practically grew up in the studio watching Dungeon Family artists like OutKast and Bubba Sparxxx work their magic in the booth. From there, he developed an ear for melody as well as a work ethic that pushed him to succeed.

Future may not be the most lyrical individual when he gets behind the mic, but his songwriting ability is undeniable. Along with his incredible hook writing, Future has delivered hit after hit by creating music that his fans gravitate to. "I'm trying to connect with people's hearts," he says. "At first I was just doing it to get your attention. Now that I got your attention, I want to do it to take you somewhere, so you can understand me. And get you through certain situations that I done went through."

At this point Future's voice has become synonymous with the use of Auto-Tune. However, whereas many other artists have failed in execution with the audio processor, Future has reinvented its purpose. Here he describes why he decided to use it. "It was with my tone," he says. "I already have a raspy voice. And when I do the Auto-Tune, it just gives it another kind of feeling."

Watch the full clip above, where Future details the making of his hit single "Turn On the Lights" and how he constructs a record by freestyling. If you enjoyed this episode, watch Azealia Banks' latest appearance on The Process below.
