After sharing the trailer for his upcoming album, Because The Internet, earlier today, Childish Gambino offered some new music as well. On Twitter, he shared a link to download "telegraph ave." and an accompanying remix from Los Angeles producer Ta-ku (who, appropriately, given the vibe here, has a mixtape called Songs To Break Up To).
Named for one of Oakland's signature drags, the song is a woozy, mostly sung composition about a relationship tied to the Bay Area city. With its lilting singing and ignored lover subject matter, it instantly calls to mind Drake, but it's also another step forward in what's shaping up to be a promising album that finds Childish Gambino staking out a new direction for himself. The remix, which screws down his vocals and adds in some frenetic, snapping 808s, is just as good, the type of impossibly cool electronic music one imagines Gambino listens to in fancy lofts all the time.
