Last week, Weslyn "Mama Wes" Monroe, the mother of the late Pimp C, died at age 66. Monroe had been battling with breast cancer for several years, and had been hospitalized in Port Arthur, Texas the previous week. On Friday, family and close friends came together for her funeral service, to pay respects to the woman who raised the man who would go on to become one of the most iconic figures in Southern hip-hop.

Rappers including Webbie and Bun B were present at the funeral. Bun, Pimp C's partner in the legendary UGK, was part of the procession that carried the casket. Webbie, who has collaborated with Pimp C numerous times throughout his career, also spoke on the significance of attending the funeral.

Pimp C died December 2007 of a drug overdose. He put out two solo albums before his passing. There have been two posthumous releases, with a possible third one in the works. As a group, UGK released five albums prior to Pimp C's passing, with one release following the tragic event.
