A home base for artists like Run-D.M.C., the Beastie Boys, and LL Cool J during their earlier years, Chung King Studios in New York City played an integral role in rap’s foray into the mainstream.

“I expected hip-hop to be a cult item and then, it just kept getting bigger and bigger,” studio founder John King admits in an interview with Frank 151. He describes a handful of experiences he had while at Chung King and he even criticizes the West Coast’s interpretation of rap.

He also recalls an time when he was hanging out with Wu-Tang Clan’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard and "might have been snorting something." ODB got pissed that day after LL Cool J didn't show up to a recording session and he took his anger out by grabbing one of LL’s plaques on the wall and pissing on it. Considering his usual antics, this could be filed under standard normal procedures for ODB.
