Jayson Musson Joins Hector El Father, Asking for Compensation Over Samples in Baauer's "Harlem Shake"

Just one day after Justin Timberlake, dressed as a block of tofu, did the "Vegan Shake" on SNL, the New York Times reported that Jayson Musson (aka Hennesey Youngman), the actual voice of the "and do the harlem shake!" sample in Baauer's "Harlem Shake," will be joining Hector El Father in seeking financial compensation for that uncredited sample.

Lucky for Mad Decent, those YouTube spins turned into cash, although who knows how this will play out in or out of court. We're also not fans of the NYT saying things like "Mr. Musson sings “Do the Harlem shake” 15 seconds into the track, a cue for the dancers to thrash around wildly;" you're just giving Melissa Harris-Perry more ammunition.

The interesting fact is that Machete Music, which is owned by Universal, is the label that put out the track featuring Hector El Father's "con los terroristas," so this could get sticky... although we have a feeling that Diplo/Mad Decent will just do what needs to be done monetarily, as to not crush the momentum of "Harlem Shake."
