The First Thing I Bought When I Got Rich is a recurring feature in which today's most popular artists open up about the big purchases they made immediately following early success.
It's no secret that Wiz Khalifa loves to rap about money. Listen to any of his songs and you'll quickly find that financial matters are one of the most dominant themes in his music. Even when he's not recording, Wiz is apt to bring up moolah in regular conversation, as he did more than a few times in our recently revealed October/November cover story with the Pittsburgh-bred MC.
With that said, it's fitting that Wiz is the subject of the inaugural edition of Complex Music's new feature about what artists splurge on when they get paid. You've definitely seen the whip Wiz copped, but read on for his story.
What was the first thing you bought when you got rich?
My 2011 [Dodge] Challenger. The black and yellow car from the video.
I think it was $40,000. I didn't buy it straight out because I wanted to build my credit up. I've got a couple cars that I bought straight out, but I didn't buy this one straight out. I'm actually still making payments on it even though I could buy it. It's good to have bills. Keeps your credit looking good.
This was like 2010.
Back in Pittsburgh.
It's in perfect shape. I just drove it last night. It's at the crib, chilling. I switch back and forth between my L.A. crib and my Pittsburgh crib, so my mom goes out and starts it up for me when I’m not around. She makes sure it's tight.
