In a bizarre turn of events, three of the five remaining members have been booted from the Beach Boys. According to a newly released statement, Mike Love (who has legal control of the Beach Boys name) has kicked Al Jardine, David Marks and, yes, Brian Wilson out of the band. That leaves Love, Bruce Johnson and a backing band to tour as the Beach Boys.

The change takes effect after what will likely be a pretty tense show at the Wembley Arena in London tomorrow. That show closes out the Beach Boys’ extensive 50th anniversary celebration, which included a worldwide tour, several reissues and a new album, That’s Why God Made the Radio.

Love remarked that this year’s events were “designed to be a set tour with a beginning and an end” but Wilson reportedly told CNN that he’s “disappointed and can’t understand why [Love] doesn’t want to tour with Al, David, and me.” Love seems to be within his rights, but there’s still a petition floating around the Internet trying to fight back against the decision.
