PROMO: Complex Life Teams Up With the NHTSA to Tell Y’all to Click It or Ticket!

Buckle up. No, seriously.

As of 2016, the national seat belt usage rate had risen to 90.1 percent, which is pretty great. But keep in mind, that remaining 9.9 percent amounts to 37 million people who are still driving around unbuckled—and unsafe.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched its annual Click It or Ticket initiative to raise awareness of the fact that there are still far too many people riding around without the safety of a seat belt to protect them. During this year’s campaign, which runs from May 22 through June 4, state and local law enforcement agencies across the nation will be stepping up their efforts to enforce unbuckled motorists and passengers.

Despite its name, Click It or Ticket really isn’t about issuing citations. It’s about saving lives. In 2015 alone, there were almost 10,000 unbuckled drivers or passengers killed in crashes in the United States. That’s way too many.

Let’s be honest: One is way too many.

To help raise awareness of the issue, Complex has teamed up with NHTSA to create a special three-episode arc of Life at Complex. Each one will feature Mike, Tony, and Maggie finding themselves in situations where they’re caught between the lazy instinct to just not bother to put on their seat belts and the legit reasons why they need to with the quickness.

You can check out the first episode in the video here, and be sure to check back soon for a new episode of Life at Complex: Click it or Ticket
