A Wisconsin woman's successful car thief prevention method is making waves. Melissa Smith spoke with CNN Thursday about the would-be SUV theft, captured on the gas station's surveillance video, and revealed she simply didn't feel up for "dealing with this sort of crap" at the time.

"If I held onto the side, I knew he could just drag me and leave," Smith said, explaining her decision to leap onto the hood as the suspect attempted to make off with her SUV. "But with me on top, I don't know, it was just 'This is what I'm doing, you are not leaving with my car, I am not dealing with this sort of crap today.'"

At first, Smith said, the suspect proceeded to laugh at her while attempting to throw her off the hood. Once the suspect finally gave up, Smith had to chase after her car and hop in to prevent it from rolling directly into traffic. The suspect escaped in a separate vehicle. After the ordeal wrapped up, Smith called her fiancé.

"My fiancé was the first person I called," Smith told CNN. "He didn't really believe me at first, then he saw the video and had a 'holy smokes!' moment. He wasn't too thrilled with my decision, but he's very glad that I'm safe."

According to Smith, the suspect hasn't been caught but police are currently investigating the incident.
