A New Hampshire man who was fired via text message after missing work to peep his son's birth is now being "flooded" with job offers. Lamar Austin was fired from his job as a part-time security guard with Salerno Protective Services just hours before his son was born on Jan. 1, the Huffington Postreported Tuesday. A GoFundMe page has since been started by family leave advocate Sara Persechino while Austin pursues the job offer that's already caught his eye.

After reading about Austin's story in the Concord Monitor, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers business manager Denis Beaudoin invited the 30-year-old father of four to sign up for an apprenticeship. The GoFundMe page, meanwhile, has successfully raised more than $8,000 of its $10,000 goal at the time of this writing.

"Sometimes you lose something and you get something even better," Austin told the Monitor last week while resting at the Concord Hospital with his baby boy, Cainan, and his wife, Lindsay. Austin, a military veteran who was under a 90-day trial period at Salerno when they pulled the plug, missed his Friday and Saturday shifts after Lindsay went into labor.

"Being shrouded in confidentiality we are unable to comment until all business with Mr. Austin has been concluded," Salerno CEO Anthony Salerno told the Monitor. "SPS is not in the practice of releasing employees for reasons stated in the article you published but must be cognizant of the product we give our clients!"

Persechino, whose GoFundMe page has been authenticated to the Post, said all that matters now is the joy of this growing family. "I don't think they should have to be worrying about financial issues right now," she told the Monitor. "It should be a joyful time for them. Anything we can do to make this even more joyous is worth it."
